Rick and Rainer's BMW
August 2024: The paint of Igor was almost gone so I got the green light to have him painted. I already crossed "paint a car" of my bucket list so I had it done. Turned out pretty nice if I may say so myself!
15 October 2025: Was time to do some work on Igor since I had some time. I used the theme: "Let there be light!". So the first light that came to play was the third brake light. Next was the light in the trunk and last for now was the reverse light!
11 Jul 24: Finally fixed the coolant leak by the coolant sensor and put a new gasket in, Did one shock replacement on the driver side which took a lot longer than expected. Bolts and nuts are rustier than you think.
12 Jul 24: Did the other side which went extremely smooth for some reason. Also getting Igor ready for that new coat of paint.
10 September 2024: Amazing what the sun can do over time, I assume that this rearview mirror is 43 years old, Was time to replace
13 February 2026: Igor has been having a nasty brake fluid leak that I could not find. I took him to Midas and they found that the leak is from the master brake cylinder. The BMW part is $1,200 to $1,500. Parts Geek had it for about $400 and Rock Auto had it for $200.
14 February 2026: I put the master cylinder I bought from Rock Auto in. There was a lot of air accumulating in those brake lines and the brakes needed to be bled. Never really done that on my own but Robert needed to be at work in the afternoon. Not wanting to waste any time and one is supposed to be able to bleed the brakes alone with that little gadget I gave it a try. Took a while and a couple of rounds and then it actually worked! So there should be an end to brake fluid collecting on the garage floor.
Have to find now a transmission place that actually listens to my request to just put seals in so the transmission no longer leaks. They all, so far shut off their ears the minute "BMW" or 5 speed transmission gets mentioned, Go figure!
